First of all: A legally compliant drone liability insurance is an absolute must. Whereby the question arises, what is "lawful" and what not?
Rule of thumb: Insure Drones only with real aircraft liability!
Drones need a special aircraft liability insurance. After all they are also called unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), unmanned arial vehicles or even uninhabited or unpiloted aerial vehicles. However, what remains is the term "aerial vehicle". And an aircraft needs a legally compliant aircraft liability insurance - everything else goes by the law.
So if you think you can insure your drone with a commercial private liability insurance (usually included in your household insurance), you risk a lot. And even more risks the insurance agent recommending something like that. However, especially in the rather small Austrian insurance market, many institutions are not able to set their own aviation tariffs.
